'He’s told them all they’ve got to be there to cheer this one on' - Judgementofsolomon the toast of Sir Mark Prescott tea party
Judgementofsolomon sparked jubilant scenes on course and 145 miles away in Newmarket when landing the 2m1f handicap.
The three-year-old was second when sent off as favourite at Chester last Friday but the even-money market leader made amends when going one better under Luke Morris.
The Sir Mark Prescott-trained winner was recording his first success since scoring at Wolverhampton in April and after the son of Study Of Man’s first turf victory, part-owner Ian Mailer said: “He’s been a little bit of a character, he’s keeping a little bit back, but the extra distance really helped.
“Sir Mark’s entertaining today, he’s got 17 round at Heath House for tea and he's told them all they've got to be there before 4pm to cheer this one on!”
Mailer owns the Kirsten Rausing-bred gelding with four others including Julie Greenwood, who explained the significance of the Douglas-Pennant family silks worn by Morris.
“They’re a modification of my the colours of my grandfather, who won the Grand National in 1908 with Rubio,” she said. “They’ve stayed in the family ever since.
“The only modification is we’ve got braces, because the original ones went out of the family but these are virtually the same with the red and black. It’s just so exciting.”
Worthwhile trip
Aidan Keeley’s first visit to the West Yorkshire venue paid off when his only mount Fiscal Policy obliged in the opening 6f apprentice handicap. The 17-2 shot was only Keeley's second ride for trainer Ruth Carr.
“It’s the first winner since riding out my claim, so it’s good to roll on a bit now I’m professional,” said Keeley. “It’s my first winner here as well. It makes the journey home a bit better than driving back empty-handed.”
Alice Bond emulated Keeley by riding her first winner at the track when backing up last month’s Yarmouth success on Mc'ted in the 1m2f handicap for Joseph Parr.
