'He's such a special horse' - Quinault completes another remarkable winning run with Listed race hat-trick
Quinault continued his remarkable winning run when completing a Listed race hat-trick in the Garrowby Stakes.
The Stuart Williams-trained four-year-old put together a six-timer among seven wins last year, and won at this level in the Queensferry Stakes and Hopeful Stakes last month. He had to dig deep to score again, repelling the challenge of Purosangue by a neck in the 6f contest.
"We thought he wouldn't like this ground but he just wants to win – he definitely tries," said Williams. "He's a special horse for a yard the size of ours, especially as he came a long way in such a short space of time last year. He had a little wobble earlier this year and was a little bit ill after we gave him the flu jab, but he's bang in form now."
Quinault is entered for Saturday's Group 2 Park Stakes at Doncaster, but he is unlikely to run there with Williams eyeing up possible international missions with his stable star.
He said: "There's a chance he'll improve again next year and I still think he might be better over seven furlongs, so we've got to explore that avenue as well. He'll have a little bit of a break now as he's done his bit for the summer, but we could travel with him.
"He's a gelding so we'll go where the best prize-money is. There isn't much point in running him in Group races just for the sake of it."
Windlord impressively wins
Windlord set up a possible tilt at the Royal Lodge Stakes with his impressive victory in the £40,000 mile novice stakes.
His five-and-a-half-length triumph continued rider Oisin Murphy's fine form, and he could be stepped up to Group 2 level at Newmarket this month.
Anna-Lisa Balding, wife of winning trainer Andrew, said: "We're thrilled with that. He's been delighting us in his bits of work at home and we were hoping he'd bring it to the track today.
"With a jockey riding like Oisin is at the moment, it's very helpful. He was complimentary afterwards so we'll look for something better now. He's in the Royal Lodge, but we'll see about that."
Murphy and Balding doubled up when Brighton Boy put himself back in the good books with victory in the 6f nursery.
Anna-Lisa Balding added: "He managed to break my phone beforehand by giving it a good kick, but he's redeemed himself.
"I don't think everyone would have won on him, and he wasn't concentrating on what he should have been doing, but he's got a pretty bright future."
Red-hot Ellison
Brian Ellison took his strike-rate in the last fortnight to a fine 33 per cent with Northern Spirit's win in the 6f handicap.
The trainer said: "He's the second horse I've bred – the first one wasn't too good. He was in great form and we knew he'd like the ground, but I was concerned about the draw."
