'He's going great guns' - another winner for in-form Freddie Gordon as Mister Upton impresses
Freddie Gordon's red-hot run of form continued with Mister Upton's impressive victory in the opening 2m5f conditional jockeys' handicap chase for his father Chris.
The five-year-old stormed to a three-and-a-quarter-length success and took the rider's strike-rate in the last fortnight to 30 per cent. He has also now partnered three winners from his last six rides, all of whom are trained by his father.
"Freddie's going great guns," Chris Gordon said. "I know I'm a bit biased, but he's riding really well. He's got a great eye for a stride as well as good hands and he's really coming on now.
"He's got a great boss in Nicky Henderson so he's definitely in the right place to be learning all of the time off the best."
Mister Upton reversed the form with the third-placed Boys Of Wexford, who had beaten him at Fontwell last month.
The trainer added: "The winner at Fontwell was the hot favourite but had run beforehand. Mine were needing their first run of the season a bit and he was entitled to strip fitter in this."
Another first for Owen
James Owen notched another landmark when saddling his first winner at the track with Secret Des Dieux in division two of the 2m3½f novice hurdle.
Winning jockey Sam Twiston-Davies then rapidly doubled up with Gustoso's victory in the 3m1½f handicap hurdle.
Winning machine
Beat Box made it five wins from his last six starts when impressively landing the feature 2m novice handicap chase.
