'He's doing unbelievable' - 16-year-old rider Fred Gingell continues dream start
Monday: Plumpton
Fred Gingell continued the dream start to his riding career when he partnered Lanspark to victory in the 3m1f amateur jockeys’ handicap hurdle.
Gingell, the grandson of trainer Colin Tizzard, had his first win aboard West Approach this month and his tally now stands at two victories from three rides after a confident ride on the 11-2 shot.
Things did not go all Gingell’s way as he arrived late to the start and was unable to grab a prominent position, but that did not faze the 16-year-old, who gave his partner the perfect ride to score by four and a quarter lengths from the favourite Dynamite Kentucky.
"It feels amazing, I couldn’t have dreamed of this," Gingell told Sky Sports Racing. "It’s the best start I could ever have asked for."
Proud assistant trainer Joe Tizzard added: "He’s doing unbelievable, he couldn’t have wished for a better start that’s for certain. Fred’s not doing anything wrong at all. He’s going to make some mistakes but he couldn’t have wished for a nicer start."
Emotional success
Mark Of Gold provided his connections with another emotional success at the Sussex track after justifying odds of 1-6 in the opening novice hurdle.
Owned by Stevie Fisher, who suffers from locked-in syndrome, the Gary Moore-trained five-year-old strolled to victory after making all the running.
Winning rider Jamie Moore told Sky Sports Racing: "It's amazing what a horse can do for someone. It's pretty emotional, horses really do give people a buzz."
The trainer doubled up when Early Du Lemo won the 2m1f handicap chase under another of his sons Josh.
