Newmarket-based apprentice Kaiya Fraser has made some worthwhile trips north, but he topped the lot by gaining his first treble on his first visit to the Scottish track.

Fraser, who has ridden seven winners at Newcastle and five at Hamilton this year, scored on his first ride at Ayr on 5-2 favourite Inappropriate in the apprentice handicap.

He then pleased his growing fan club even more with two last-gasp victories on Graecia (10-1) and Shine On Brendan (7-1) to rack up a 307-1 hat-trick.

The winning run finally came to an end when his fourth ride, Laudable, was beaten into second in the last.

Fraser kicked off the memorable day by providing his boss Harry Eustace with his first winner at the course on Inappropriate.

"It's a long way to go but he likes better ground and Kaiya gets on very well with him," the trainer said.

"Kaiya's really built up some momentum recently and a lot of the credit has got to go to his agent James Forrest. Once he can get on them, he shows how good he can be.

"He's been a big asset for us and it's great he's getting a lot of support. Looking at the numbers, he picked up a ban the other day and it's going to be hard to make a real challenge for the apprentice title this year, but he should very much be in the mix next year."
