'He's absolutely obsessed by riding winners' - another treble for Brian Hughes

Fresh from bringing up the century for the season at Ayr on Monday, Brian Hughes continued his relentless rich vein of form with a treble from four rides.

Hughes struck on Creative Control in the 2m4f maiden hurdle and Obey The Rules in the 2m1f handicap chase – the pair are trained by the equally red-hot Donald McCain – and then landed the 2m1f novice hurdle aboard Findthetime for Nicky Richards.

Hughes has not picked up a single whip or careless riding suspension in his 467 rides this season and Richard Hale, who has been his agent since he arrived in Britain, said: “Brian rides to the rules and knows how to get the best out of his horses.

“He’s a consummate professional and a great role model. I tell all my young jockeys to watch him.

“Donald’s horses have been in exceptional form and he’s had numerous horses run up sequences – it has certainly helped Brian’s cause. We keep trying to extend Brian’s lead in the championship and there’s no taking the foot off the gas.

“I’ve been doing this job for 25 years and I’ve never known a jockey as dedicated to the cause as Brian. He’s absolutely obsessed by horseracing and riding winners. For me, nobody over obstacles, be it Britain or Ireland, is riding better than Brian.”

The unique trip of 3m3f around Sedgefield clearly suits the Ian Williams-trained Regaby, who recorded back-to-back course-and-distance wins in the handicap chase under Charlie Todd.

Hefty suspension

Amateur jockey Amy Corrado was suspended by stewards for ten days on her first ride in the 2m1f handicap hurdle on Wilhelm Vonvenster, who finished eighth, having been deemed to have failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure her mount achieved the best possible placing.
