'He would excel in any discipline' - dependable Elvis Mail gallops to sixth course success in feature Edinburgh Gin Chase
Elvis Mail took his remarkable track record to six wins from 18 starts with a brave success in the Edinburgh Gin Chase.
The ten-year-old took up his customary stalking position but began to make headway at halfway and took it up at the omitted second-last fence. With the last also taken out due to low sun, he dug deep up the hill to deny the late challenges of Famous Bridge and Peaches And Cream to score by three lengths.
The grey was recording back-to-back triumphs in the race and also helped his rider Bruce Lynn shed his 3lb claim. The performance prompted Nick Alexander to pay tribute to his stable star's tenacity and versatility.
"He's very good here and that's the third £50,000 chase he's won," he said. "I'm delighted with him and he's very brave. He was the oldest horse in the race and carried top weight to win very well.
"He's extremely straightforward to train and everyone loves him. He would excel in any discipline – he does dressage and we also do gymnastic showjumping with him – he's brilliant at everything."
On future plans, he added: "I don't know what we'll do with him now. He's qualified for the Veterans' Series Final at Sandown, so we might target that. There's nothing else for him here until March."
Rampant Russell
Lucinda Russell's string are finding their form as advertised by a yard treble.
Bold Light won the opening 2m maiden hurdle in the style of a smart prospect before Walk On Quest made a winning debut over fences in the 2m1f handicap chase. Things got even better when Old Gregorian struck at 20-1 in the 2m handicap hurdle.
