Invincible Nao proved the winning ticket for jockey Caoilin Quinn in the Sussex National when getting up in a thrilling finish to the marathon contest.

Quinn partnered Dom Of Mary to glory in the 3m4½f heat last season and David Bridgwater's runner looked set to land the spoils for the second year in a row when kicking clear in the home straight for Brendan Powell, but Invincible Nao and Quinn rallied to score by a neck.

His joint-trainer Josh Moore said: "He saw out the trip well and Caoilin gave him a very good ride. I think he was pretty confident with what he had underneath him to get up.

"He's not a straightforward horse and huge credit has to go to Archie Silburn, who rides him at home. He's really made a difference to him as he was freegoing two-miler before."

Invincible Nao capped a double for the yard following Walks Like The Man's win in the 2m3½f novice handicap chase. Moore added: "They were much needed winners, but hopefully we've turned a corner now and can kick on."

Gordons hat-trick

Father and son duo Chris and Freddie Gordon enjoyed a treble, headlined by San Pedro retaining his title in the opening 3m1f conditional jockeys' handicap hurdle.

They doubled up when Confinentic got up in the final strides to land the 2m4½f handicap hurdle before Alto Alto took the 2m1f handicap chase.

Chris Gordon was denied training a four-timer when Little Soiree narrowly lost out to Getmetothemoon in the 2m mares' handicap hurdle.
