'He keeps improving' - Lazieelunch eats up the ground to secure back-to-back wins for Sean Woods
Lazieelunch confirmed the form of last month’s win over Matharu to record back-to-back victories in the mile nursery.
The runner-up was sent off the 7-4 favourite to reverse the form of that neck defeat to the Sean Woods-trained son of Without Parole at Kempton last time, having subsequently gone one better at the same track.
However, despite facing his old rival on 1lb worse terms than last time, Lazieelunch powered home under Danny Muscutt to score by a length.
Woods said: “He won well at Kempton and the handicapper put him up 10lb, which we thought was a little bit harsh, but he keeps improving and quickened up really nicely off a strong pace."
The winner is two from two since being upped to a mile and Woods added: “He’s for Ignited [owners], who are all good friends. They’re all of the city and they’ve had a lovely day.”
Woods was denied a double and his 100th domestic winner since returning to Newmarket from Hong Kong in 2021 when Sonmarg chased home Whoop Whoop in the 7f handicap.
The Tom Ward-trained winner scored by a length over Woods’s 13-8 favourite, defying a 6lb penalty for last Wednesday’s course-and-distance success under Tom Marquand.
Muscutt completed a double when riding his first winner for trainer Ollie Sangster on Pure Of Heart in the 1m4f fillies' handicap.
Lady lands feature
Hello Miss Lady proved her runner-up effort to the unbeaten Cognisance at odds of 100-1 last time was no fluke when going one better in the feature mile novice.
