'He is a bit special' - Nicky Henderson thrilled with £570,000 brother to Douvan
Jonbon, whose stunning price tag matches his beautiful pedigree, produced a sparkling display on his rules debut in Newbury's bumper and could be something special, trainer Nicky Henderson said in his post-race debrief.
A brother to the brilliant Douvan, Jonbon strolled home in a point-to-point at Dromahane for Ellmarie Holden in November and was then purchased by JP McManus for £570,000.
That figure made him the most expensive point-to-pointer ever sold at auction and McManus subsequently placed his big-money buy in the care of the Lambourn-based Henderson, who had described the gelding as a "beautiful horse" and "exciting for everyone".

The five-year-old got the chance to show that at Newbury in the track's bumper, which carried a first prize of £4,520.
Led up by Robin Land, who looks after Altior, and ridden by Nico de Boinville, Jonbon moved powerfully through the race and put things to bed in a matter of strides.
"We're very lucky to be sent horses like this," said Henderson. "You feel the pressure that comes with it. We were waiting and hoping for what we thought would, and luckily did, happen.
"There are plenty of these horses who don't turn out to be what they're thought and it's just lovely to see him do what he did today.
"He relaxed, raced beautifully and quickened up well. Thanks to JP for letting us have him. He'll go back to JP's Martinstown stud for the summer and we've all got a summer where we can dream of what might happen next season – I think he is a bit special."
Henderson added: "He's a gorgeous horse who has the looks and pedigree. I spoke to Derek O'Connor, who rode him in his point, this morning and he came with big recommendations. It's only the first step of what I hope will be a long and successful career – he's something to look forward to."
By Walk In The Park, a high-class son of Montjeu, Jonbon has a way to go to match the achievements of his illustrious sibling Douvan, whose 15 wins feature eight at the highest level, including Cheltenham Festival triumphs in the Supreme Novices' Hurdle and Arkle.
Henderson continued: "He's a bit of a fidget at home and wouldn't stand still for long, but he looks magnificent on it and is not a horse who worries about it.
'We're very lucky' - £570,000 buy Jonbon set to be trained by Nicky Henderson
"He can anticipate things a bit, but I was pleased with how he relaxed in the race and got on with the job.
"We've not had to gallop or train him too much, but he's done three or four bits of work and they've very clearly been of a high standard; he's in no way wound up to do this. It was nice to get that run under his belt and it's holiday time.
"He's a brother to Douvan, by Walk In The Park, and he ticks every single box you could wish for."
