'He bolted up' - a cracking dual workout the key as Mirabeau heads Dominic Ffrench Davis double at Brighton
Mirabeau justified significant market support with an impressive win in the 7f maiden to complete a rapid 20-1 double for trainer Dominic Ffrench Davis.
After being 14-1 overnight, the son of Territories drifted to 20-1 on Monday morning before he was backed into 6-1 before the off, and he duly delivered on that faith when scoring by three and a half lengths under Finley Marsh.
It capped a fine 35 minutes for Ffrench Davis, who landed the opening mile apprentice handicap with James Park Woods.
"Funnily enough he and Mirabeau did a cracking piece of work together last week. We knew if he ran well then Mirabeau would likewise and he bolted up," he said.
"We always thought a lot of him and were a bit disappointed with his first run at Newbury. We scoped him and found mucus in his lungs and it took a while to get it right, but we came here full of confidence."
James Park Woods' success also ended a 452-day wait for a winner for apprentice jockey Taryn Langley.
Ffrench Davis added: "I've watched her ride work for Richard Hughes and she always stands out. My son Ben sees her working hard in the gym and if you put that effort in, you'll get rewarded."
Winning Secret
Secret Handsheikh picked up a fourth course-and-distance win when landing the 5½f handicap for the second year in a row.
Welcome winner
James Horton came off the cold list with his first win in 67 days courtesy of Cassandraalexandra in the 6f handicap.
