Grandero Bello got his career back on track with a 22-1 shock in the feature 2m6½f handicap chase to tee up a possible tilt at big-race glory in the Coral Gold Cup next month.

The eight-year-old promised plenty when landing his beginners' chase at Gowran in February last year before finishing runner-up to Thedevilscoachman in a Grade 3 at Limerick, but had been restricted to just two starts since.

He returned from ten months off to finish eighth at Leopardstown in March and had another spell on the sidelines before landing a third success under rules by three-quarters of a length from Tyre Kicker under Ricky Doyle.

"We thought he was going to have a great career, but he had a few little problems," Doyle said. "We were hoping to go for the Kerry National but he didn't get in and the ground was too good in the Munster National. He's a proper winter horse.

"The owners are down the road from Newbury, so what was the Hennessy could be the next thing."

Power from Glory

Sam Ewing and Gordon Elliott enjoyed a double that was kicked off by Search For Glory, who powered eight lengths clear of Sa Majeste on his debut over fences in the 2m6½f beginners' chase.

Patter Merchant followed up for the pair in the Gigginstown House Stud silks when he made a winning start over hurdles in the 2m5½f maiden hurdle, defeating I Am Lorenzo by four and a half lengths.
