The nightcap proved a much-needed tonic for Mouse Morris as Camino Rock provided the Gold Cup and Grand National-winning trainer with his first victory since the ill-fated Foxy Jacks landed the cross-country chase at Cheltenham's November meeting last year.

Morris remains as popular as ever and the outcome of the concluding 3m½f handicap hurdle would have brought a smile to many a face.

It was Camino Rock's first win at the 16th time of asking, and he stayed on strongly under Gavin Brouder to beat Royal Cave by two and a quarter lengths at 8-1.

McConnell at the double

A quickfire double for John McConnell brought the trainer's tally to six winners in the last 12 days.

Zefania got the ball rolling in the 2m3f mares' maiden hurdle under Alex Harvey, and half an hour later Harvey's brother, Ben, did the steering on Churchwarden in the 2m3f novice handicap hurdle. Both were returned 15-8 favourites.

More success for Sexton

Harry Sexton celebrated his first winner since turning pro when Katherine, trained by his father Adrian, won the 2m mares' handicap hurdle at 13-2.

It was Harry's third winner in all and Katherine has certainly been kind to him as she also provided him with his breakthrough success at Tipperary in July 2023.

River again runs dry

There was yet more heartache for connections of Clonshire River, who was cruelly denied in the opening maiden hurdle having looked home and hosed halfway up the run-in.

He did something similar at Thurles in February, and this time it was the Cian Collins-trained Has Me Dreaming who cashed in under Jordan Gainford.
