Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy narrowly denied in American Grand National as Snap Decision strikes late to beat Galvin
Snap Decision struck on his fourth attempt at the American Grand National to deny the Gordon Elliott-trained Galvin.
The Jack Fisher-trained ten-year-old, who finished runner-up in the 2021 event at Far Hills, sixth a year later and was pulled up last year, finally came out on top on Saturday under Graham Watters in a thrilling finish to the Grade 1 contest.
The Jack Kennedy-ridden Galvin, making his first start since finishing fourth to I Am Maximus in the Grand National at Aintree in April, was sent off the 23-10 favourite for the American version, run over two miles and five furlongs.
He led during the final stages but Snap Decision stayed on strongly and stuck his head in front to win by a neck and post an 18th career success.
There was just a neck back to third home High Definition, trained by Leslie Young and ridden by Jamie Bargary. Formerly trained by Aidan and then Joseph O'Brien, the six-year-old won the Group 2 Beresford Stakes in 2020 and was placed at the top level on the Flat and over hurdles.
