Fozzy Stack saddled a double as Bodhi Bear landed the opening 6f maiden under Seamie Heffernan before New Theory obliged an hour later with a gutsy display under Darragh O'Sullivan.

Bodhi Bear went close to landing a big pot at Naas ten days ago when going down by half a length to Fiona Maccoul but made no mistake this time as he got off the mark at the third attempt, staying on strongly to beat 5-4 favourite Mathan by a length and three-quarters.

New Theory was also shedding her maiden tag in the 5f maiden, making it fifth time lucky under O'Sullivan. She had to show plenty of resolution to prevail given the challengers were circling close home and there was just half a length between the first four at the line, but the 11-1 shot stuck her neck out to good effect.

Stack said: "Bodhi Bear won well and should be a better horse next year. New Theory is tough, honest and put her head down. She got her turn. Horses run for Darragh and he is a good, hard-working, grounded, young fella."

Apprentice title hots up

The apprentice title race continues to heat up as James Ryan guided home a crucial winner in the first division of the 1m6f handicap on the Conor Maxwell-trained Kool One, bringing himself level with Wayne Hassett on 30 winners.

The half-length victory was made all the more pivotal as Adam Caffrey, who now trails the front two by one in the standings, had to settle for second on Cafe Con Leche.
