'Form is temporary, class is permanent' - Ilikedwayurthinkin and Richie McLernon combine for third win in four
Ilikedwayurthinkin delivered yet another winner for Ben Haslam when powering home readily in the feature 3m handicap chase.
The JP McManus-owned gelding had just two rivals to contend with but ran home a 35-length winner under Richie McLernon, who has ridden the ten-year-old in all bar one of his starts since moving from Gavin Cromwell's yard last year.
Ilikedwayurthinkin notched his third win from his last four starts and Haslam is eager to find more staying opportunities for his in-form gelding.
"I'm delighted with that," he said. "Richie gave him a great ride from the front, and the plan was to try and expose any flaws or stamina in the other two, and it seems we got the tactics right.
"He's pretty versatile, so I think he'll keep busy, though I hope he's not penalised too much for this win. There's a couple of staying chases up in the north we'll have a look at now.
"Form is temporary, class is permanent, so there's always a big day in a horse like him."
Danny delivers
Danny Mullins returned to Ayr for the first time since winning the Scottish Grand National in April and once more he left the course a winner after Kinbara Firstdraft landed the 2m4½f handicap hurdle.
The five-year-old held off Malangen by a length and three-quarters to claim a second career success for Stuart Crawford.
Mullins was denied a double when Step Out was beaten by Immortal Flame in the 2m4½f novice handicap chase.
