First Rowley Mile hat-trick for Finley Marsh as Micky Quinn provides an assist

Finley Marsh scored on all three of his rides in successive races to record just his second treble.

His hat-trick was completed in the 6f handicap by the Jack Channon-trained Ingra Tor, who was tacked up by ex-footballer and trainer Mick Quinn, a former teammate of Channon's father Mick.

Quinn said: "I was on my way to Chester to see Franny Norton but got a call from Jack, who said he wanted some help to saddle this fella up so I turned around. I played with Mick at Portsmouth but we weren't a good combination. It looks as though me and Jack are a better combo."

Marsh also mopped up two other handicaps on the card, including when the Harry Charlton-trained Zouzanna flew out of the Dip to land the mile fillies' handicap. He also scored aboard Brunel Nation for Richard Hughes in the following 7f handicap.

The jockey, who moved onto a career-best 56 winners for the year, said: "It's hard enough to get one winner at Newmarket let alone three and I'm grateful to everyone for putting me up. I had a treble at Wolverhampton this year but never three in a row and to do it here is amazing."

No Ces for Robert

Robert Johnson ran out a good winner of the Cesarewitch Trial but is not entered in the main event back on the Rowley Mile next month.

Connections were rueing that fact after Aiden Brookes secured a breakthrough win at the track on the flashy chestnut, trained by Tracy Waggott.

Part-owner John Wilson said: "I thought he was in the Cesarewitch but apparently not. He's a handful but can put in performances like this when he wants to. We've come down from Darlington and had a great day considering the horse cost me less than this suit I'm wearing."

Crouch hits top gear

The card was sponsored by local haulage firm Turners but it was the Ralph Beckett juvenile juggernaut that rolled on when Sea To Sky scored at the second time of asking in the mile fillies' novice stakes.

The 4-5 chance took a bit of time to get into gear in the seven-runner contest when the pace quickened at the Bushes but finished off best of all under Hector Crouch to beat Suhub.

The winner is a daughter of first-season sire Without Parole, who never actually ran at Newmarket for John Gosden, but his daughter handled the undulations well and may get further this year.

Jess Tregoning, assistant to Beckett, said: "She still ran a bit green but was doing all her best work at the finish. We may well put her away for next year after that."

The trainer was taking his tally to a remarkable 28 juvenile wins already this season.
