'Few can live with him at his peak and the Champion Chase is his for the taking'
Our experts on who impressed them most on day one of the Dublin Racing Festival
'He is probably even better than Sir Gerhard'
There were some glittering performances, but perhaps the one I was least expecting was Kilcruit in the bumper. It looked a deep race and the way he sauntered past Letsbeclearaboutit on the bridle suggests he is probably even better than Sir Gerhard, who beat the same horse by four and a half lengths at Navan.
Admittedly he did not have any hurdles to jump, but the time was just over a second behind Honeysuckle (there was a similar discrepancy between the mare and Appreciate It last year), which indicates it was a performance of substance as well as style.

'Chacun Pour Soi was simply scintillating'
There has never been a single day of the Dublin Racing Festival with the consistent star quality of Saturday's Leopardstown card, and Chacun Pour Soi's performance in the Ladbrokes Dublin Chase was simply scintillating.
Few horses can live with him when operating at the peak of his powers and the manner of his victory in a race where Notebook and Fakir D'Oudairies tried to pressurise him could not have been more eyecatching. The Champion Chase is his for the taking.

'All roads lead to the Champion Hurdle'
No prizes for originality, but how could you be anything but blown away by the manner of Honeysuckle's second straight victory in the Irish Champion Hurdle?
If ever the seven-year-old mare was going to lose her unbeaten record, this seemed to be the occasion as she dropped back to two miles after claiming five of her last six victories at four furlongs further. But she and Rachael Blackmore made a mockery of any doubters with her rivals – a high-class group with ten Grade 1s between them – strung out and in big trouble from a long way from home. All roads now lead to the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham next month.
