'Fantastic' novice Bavington Bob delivers again for in-form Ann Hamilton
Saturday: Newcastle
Ann Hamilton may have only four horses in training but it has not hindered her ability to bring home winners after Bavington Bob gave the trainer a ninth success of the season under Brian Hughes.
Despite appearing outpaced throughout the race, the seven-year-old rallied to put in a game late charge to claim back-to-back successes over course and distance in the 2m7½f handicap chase.
"I think he raced lazily today," Hamilton said. "The ground is sticky and he was very deliberate with his jumping, but he did his job well in the end. He just keeps staying on.
"We don't give the horse the credit he deserves because he's so quiet and like a pet at home. He's still a novice and he needs to know he's got a job to do, but when he goes out he's fantastic and we love him."
Bavington Bob is the second winner of 2022 for Hamilton, whose horses run in the colours of husband Ian, after potential Champion Hurdle dark horse Tommy's Oscar won on New Year's Day.
Fugitif steals success
Brian Hughes almost sealed a quickfire double in the next but was denied victory when Fugitif reversed fortunes with favourite Dreams Of Home in the 2m½f handicap chase.
The Richard Hobson-trained runner was pulled up on his previous start but cruised to victory against the reopposing Dreams Of Home and Dis Donc to take his second win this season under Kielan Woods.
Hughes was able to find consolation in the final race of the day after he claimed a double with Since Day One in the 2m novice hurdle, a 95th winner of the season for Donald McCain.
