Double for Hamilton as veteran Halcyon Days rolls back the years in style
Veteran Halcyon Days survived a blunder and stayed on bravely to win the Northern Lights Two Mile Chase Series Final under Jamie Hamilton.
The 12-year-old, who was sent off at 22-1, recovered from a mistake at the fourth flight to strike for in-form trainer Rebecca Menzies.
"He was brilliant," said Menzies. "It was great to see a 12-year-old run with so much enthusiasm – that was the highlight of our year."
Hamilton recorded the opening leg of a double in the 2m3½f novice hurdle when Into Overdrive rallied to win inside the final 100 yards.
The six-year-old, who was matched for £49 at the maximum 999-1 in running on Betfair, benefited from a determined ride by Hamilton and powered a length clear of Henry Gondoff at 40-1.
"We've been delighted with him from day one," trainer Mark Walford told Racing TV. "They got racing early and he stuck on brilliantly."
Above Par
Well Above Par more than lived up to his name with an authoritative success in the Northern Lights Middle Distance Chase Series Final. The nine-year-old virtually made all to beat Ard Chros and record his first victory since November 2019 for Lucinda Russell and Derek Fox.
Landmark win
Jockey Sam Coltherd rode out his claim when Silken Moonlight landed the 2m1f mares' handicap hurdle from Sawpit Sienna.
