Champion jockey Harry Skelton reached the landmark total of 1,000 winners when guiding Dorisa Queen to win the second division of the 2m2½f handicap hurdle.

The victory was even more special as it came at his local track and was trained by his brother Dan.

“I’ve had three winners in France and two in Ireland and that's my 1,000th career winner. Maybe in a few days we’ll be celebrating 1,000 British winners.” Harry Skelton told Racing TV.

“It’s really nice to do it here at my local track and for my brother Dan, who got my career back on track – without him it wouldn't have happened. The team at home work endless hours, never grumbling and the winners are all down to them.”

The Grade 1-winning jockey has his sights set on 2,000 winners, adding: “I’m still only 32 and I’ve worked out that if I ride 125 winners in the next eight years I can hit 2,000, so that’s the next goal.”

Kap lands four-timer in dramatic style

There was a dramatic conclusion to the feature 2m3½f handicap chase when favourite Reserve Tank and the strong-travelling Carys’ Commodity crashed out at the final fence, leaving Tom Cannon's mount Kap Auteuil to land his fourth race in a row.

Trainer Toby Lawes said: “Nobody knows what would have happened if those horses stood up at the last, but even if he had been third I would have been delighted.

“He's a special horse. He took a lot of time to mature, so we gave him that time and he's rewarding us for that.”
