Derby-winning jockey Richard Kingscote continues fine form with Goodwood double

Derby-winning jockey Richard Kingscote continued his sparkling form with a quickfire double at Goodwood.

The rider, who steered the impressive Desert Crown to victory in the Epsom Classic on Saturday, did not have to wait long for another winner as The Turpinator landed the opening 7f handicap.

The Tom Ward-trained five-year-old finished a neck clear of The Attorney.

Speaking to Racing TV, Kingscote said: "He was smooth and Tom told me to settle him wherever I was happy. I was probably a horse further back than where I wanted to be, but the horse in front took me into the race and the cut away really helped.

"I wasn't going to light him up from the stalls. He was nice and settled and I left him be, because we had a nice lead into the race and he responded well."

The in-form jockey made it three wins in a row as the Harry and Roger Charlton-trained Flag Flying took the 6f novice in style.

Ascot doubt

Trainer James Evans believes Royal Ascot ambitions will be difficult for Dream Composer despite the four-year-old holding on to land his second win on the bounce in the 6f handicap.

The gelding placed at the meeting last year when fourth in the Palace Of Holyroodhouse Stakes but an appearance at next week's meeting looks to be a challenge.

"I'm not sure if we'd get in anything at Royal Ascot," said Evans. "I imagine we're in for a 2lb rise and it probably leaves us short.

"He got in last year and ran a fabulous race. He's now four from 14 for us, so he's been a great horse."
