Costello off the mark for Cheveley Park as 'talented' Bashkirova wins again
Dougie Costello rode his first winner in the famous Cheveley Park Stud colours as the exciting Bashkirova followed up her debut win at Nottingham last month with an eyecatching success in the mile novice stakes.
On his first ride for the owners, Costello steered the three-year-old filly to a narrow half-length win after she eventually saw off the attentions of 11-1 newcomer Alrehb.
Chris Richardson, racing manager for Cheveley Park, said: "We’re delighted. The first time she ran and won, she looked like she didn’t know what she was doing, but she was a lot more professional than that today.
"We’ve learned a bit more and so has she. She’s a filly that certainly looks talented, that’s for sure."
This daughter of Pivotal is from an exceptional family that includes the 1,000 Guineas winner Russian Rhythm as the granddam and Richardson added: "She comes from a fabulous family, it’s exciting to see what she’s doing."
Tabti ends losing streak
Apprentice jockey Mohammed Tabti utilised his 7lb claim to end a 196-day barren streak and a third win of the year when he scored aboard the Paul and Oliver Cole-trained Sanitiser in the feature mile nursery.
Mitchell marches on
Jack Mitchell, fresh from taking top jockey honours in the Racing League at the track on Thursday evening, kept up his superb form by guiding the Roger Varian-trained Dusky Lord to a narrow success in the 5f novice stakes.
