Cosmic Year made 20-1 for 2,000 Guineas after stunning Sandown debut
Cosmic Year was introduced at 20-1 for next year's 2,000 Guineas with Coral after producing a breathtaking debut in the 7f novice.
The Kingman colt brushed aside odds-on favourite Rock D'Oro to win by six and a half lengths and the form looks red hot given the runner-up had previously finished a close second to unbeaten Champagne Stakes winner Bay City Roller.
Juddmonte's Cosmic Year is a half-brother to the classy Time Test and a son of Group 1-winning dam Passage Of Time. He does not hold any early closing entries at this stage.
"We'll go home and see what Barry [Mahon, Juddmonte's racing manager] wants to do. I'm sure Juddmonte are struggling to fit all their horses in the stakes races," trainer Harry Charlton told Racing TV.
"We wanted to run at Newbury in July, but we took him out because the ground was too quick. He went away and lost a bit of weight going to the races so we didn't want to rush him. We waited for a couple of weeks, then there wasn't a suitable race, so we came here. Having not had a run, it would have been hard to enter him in those better races."
Palace Pier won this race in 2019 at odds of 1-8 on his second start before going on to win the St James's Palace Stakes and Jacques le Marois the following year.
Skellet strikes
Juddmonte's Skellet won the Listed Fortune Stakes at 100-30 to continue the good form of the Ralph Beckett stable. The trainer also trained Bluestocking to land Sunday's Prix Vermeille at Longchamp for the Flat powerhouse.
