Consistent handicapper Jour D'Evasion claimed a well-deserved first win of the season when making all to land the feature 2m3½f handicap hurdle.

The Henry Daly-trained six-year-old had been knocking on the door on his last two starts but finally got his nose in front with a four-and-a-half-length success under Stan Sheppard in the £20,000 contest.

"He's admirably consistent, and he probably suffers from it," said Daly. "He runs his race, regular as clockwork – he's run two very nice races in defeat this year and keeps creeping up the weights, which is always frustrating.

"Luckily he got his head in front this time and it was a very nice prize, particularly considering it was an extra meeting."

Jour D'Evasion was stepping beyond two miles for the first time since March and, while he took to the extra distance well, Daly has not ruled out a return to shorter trips for the now-maturing gelding.

"He wasn't straightforward to start with, he had his moments, but he's maturing gracefully," Daly said.

"It wouldn't frighten me if there was a stiff two-mile race, or a two-mile-three on better ground, I don't think he's necessarily trip-dependent, we will factor in what races are available when he's next ready to run."

Captain in command

Captain Boudet made a smart chase debut when he rallied well to land the 2m5f novice handicap chase under David Noonan.

The 10-1 shot failed to strike in six starts over hurdles for Jeremy Scott but thrived for the switch to fences to win with his ears pricked from Golden De Coeur.
