Connor Beasley proved he was the man to have on board at the North Yorkshire track after he steered Impressor to a first success of the year in the 5f handicap.

The Phillip Makin-trained seven-year-old benefited from the drop back in trip to win for the first time since August 2023, pulling readily clear of 40-1 shot Travel Candy to win by a length and a quarter.

"In the middle of the summer he had a couple of near misses, he nudged up a couple of pounds and then had a couple of poor efforts," Makin told Racing TV. "We thought maybe his chance was gone, but he does like the ground and still seems quite well in himself.

"He's a grand horse, he has no issues or problems, he just always turns up fresh. He's a pleasure to have."

Beasley is the leading jockey at Redcar this year and added another win to his tally when he completed a double on Darbucks in the second division of the 7f handicap. The Chris Kellett-trained five-year-old was scoring for the second time in eight days after winning at Ayr last week.

About time

Times Edition had finished runner-up on her last three starts but finally secured a maiden win in stylish fashion for Roger Varian in the mile novice.

Her nine-and-a-half-length victory marked a third success from the last five rides for Jack Mitchell, who had also earlier taken the 6f handicap on Harry's Halo.
