'Bridesmaid' The Banger Doyle lands 'deserved' third victory over fences after excellent jumping display
The Banger Doyle recorded his third win over fences in the 2m1½f handicap chase, but the race was robbed of an intriguing finish when Dollar Value fell at the last when in front.
Trained by John Queally, the 11-4 favourite was held up in rear behind the runaway leader and moved into second place in stylish fashion approaching the penultimate fence.
However, Dollar Value was still finding plenty for pressure under Alex Harvey while Michael O'Sullivan was keen to deliver the eventual winner as late as possible. The leader failed to come up at the last and suffered a crashing fall, while O'Sullivan's mount produced an enormous leap to ensure the race was in safe keeping as he came home 12 lengths in front of Calico.
The winning rider told Racing TV: "Turning in, I wasn't sure how much Alex had left but he stayed going. I didn't think it was over coming to the last. He doesn't find a whole lot off the bridle as he stays going the same speed so I was trying to keep him on it as long as I could.
"He seems to be a bridesmaid a lot of the time so he deserved that."
Latta's mare leads the way
The Yvonne Latta-trained Thisistheway showed an admirable attitude to fend off Keep Kool Coko by half a length to land the 2m4½f maiden hurdle under James O'Sullivan.
The five-year-old relished the step up in trip to score for the first time since August 2023, when she landed a Wexford bumper on her debut.
