Big celebrations for Teal last week - and more reasons to smile with Princely

"Heavily" was how Roger Teal described the celebrations after Oxted's Royal Ascot victory last week and his first runner since that memorable day maintained the winning mood.

It was a Class 6 handicap rather than a Group 1, but Princely made quite the impression in the Vickers.Bet-sponsored event. He disputed the lead early and went on to repel all challengers off topweight, holding off Swissal by a neck under Dane O'Neill to strike on his stable debut.

Cieren Fallon provided one of the feel-good stories of the season in Tuesday's King's Stand Stakes aboard Oxted and connections certainly made the most of the experience.

When asked how the Oxted camp celebrated, Teal responded "Heavily! That's why we've had no runners. It's been a good week and he's come out of it great. Hopefully he'll go to the July Cup next and it looks like he's going to have some good company there."

The trainer's son Harry received praise for priming Oxted for his Ascot date after the race, and he also played a key part in making sure Monday's 9-2 favourite was ready to run.

"That was his first run for us and it was smashing," the trainer said. "He's a lovely horse and he's very straightforward at home.

"Harry [Teal] has done his magic on him, he's riding him out the same as he does with Oxted.

"He's done it well as he's had 10st on his back. I know he's got good form over six [furlongs] but he's probably better over five. He travelled sweet there."

Chepstow breakthroughs

David O'Meara can add Chepstow to the long list of racecourses where he has enjoyed a winner following Charging Thunder's success in the 1m2f novice median auction stakes.

The three-year-old came out on top in a good tussle with odds-on favourite Bashful and helped continue David Probert's good recent form, which included a second Royal Ascot success courtesy of Sandrine in the Albany.

Probert said: "Last week was one of the highlights of my career, a winner at Royal Ascot is always special. I don't know where she [Sandrine] goes next, but she's a lovely filly and she's improving."

And of Charging Thunder, who was only the Yorkshire-based trainer's seventh runner at the Welsh track, Probert added: "He was fit and well coming into today so David was pretty hopeful having brought him all the way down.

"His form has been pretty consistent and he's got a big stride on him so I allowed him to get into his rhythm and he's galloped all the way to the line. It was a good effort."

Lewis Edmunds made his first ride at Chepstow a winning one as he partnered Gosnay Gold, trained by William Muir and Chris Grassick, to success in the 7f handicap.

Form boost

Dane O'Neill was on board for Baaeed's explosive Newmarket win on Saturday and he provided that horse with a form boost with a comfortable victory on Tamaamm in the mile maiden.

No horse has finished closer to Baaeed than the Simon and Ed Crisford-trained three-year-old when a length and a quarter runner-up at Leicester earlier this month.
