'Best day ever' - Robert Tart wins on return to saddle after four-year break
Robert Tart made a stunning and highly emotional return to race-riding after a four-year break with victory on Uber Cool in the 1m5½f handicap, which he described as the highlight of his career.
Tart, who rode a Group 2 winner and the likes of Stradivarius for former boss John Gosden, was approached by Jane Chapple-Hyam to apply for his licence after quitting due to anxiety and depression.
It was not a difficult decision for the rider to make, and he explained: "I've had a little boy, he's six months old now, and I just want to move forward and do well by him and myself and everyone around me.
"It was unbelievable to have my family there. I had a tear in my eye, a lump in my throat, it was magical, the best day ever. To see my little lad's face coming into the winner's enclosure, I couldn't be any happier."
Chapple-Hyam was equally delighted for Tart and Uber Cool, who himself was making a magnificent return after 959 days off.
"He's had his problems and I'm thrilled to get him back on track," she said.
The trainer has had the seven-year-old since he was a yearling and part-owns him along with Fiona Carmichael. While the offers may come in, she doubts he would be for sale and has a big target in mind.
"I think we'll go the handicap route and try to enjoy it. Maybe he could be a Chester Cup horse for the future. I've won the Ebor, so I'd like to win a Chester Cup."
She added: "He's a cool dude. Everyone loves Uber, he's a happy-go-lucky horse and he's like the stable pet."
Boardman stakes claim
Tim Easterby has an enviable team of sprinters and Boardman advertised his Royal Ascot claims when completing a hat-trick in the 7½f handicap, prompting bookmakers to cut him to 10-1 for the Wokingham Stakes.
The trainer has Group 1 sprint contenders at the royal meeting, with Art Power in the Diamond Jubilee and Winter Power in the King's Stand.
Boardman could turn out to be just as good and travelled powerfully under Rob Hornby, who later notched a double, to win by a length and a quarter.
