Benoit de la Sayette returns from drugs ban with a winner on first ride
Saturday: Wolverhampton
Benoit de la Sayette returned to the saddle with a winner on his first ride back from a drugs ban at Wolverhampton on Saturday.
The apprentice guided the George Scott-trained Rubbeldiekatz to victory in the opening 1m½f handicap, prevailing at 14-1 by a short head from the favourite Storm Asset.
The 19-year-old, who won the Lincoln aboard Haqeeqy a year ago, was given a six-month ban last year after a positive test for cocaine.
De La Sayette, whose six-month ban expired in October, said about the winner: “She is such a trier, I spoke to Mr Scott before the race and he said that she’s got a big heart and she’s shown that today.
“It was the perfect trip today and Mr Scott has done a lovely job preparing her, I’m just privileged to be able to ride her. I’m just delighted to have a winner for Mr Scott, and for my first ride back it’s unbelievable.”
De La Sayette, who is attached to John and Thady Gosden's yard, said: “I made a big mistake and I just want to prove to everyone who I am and just look to the future really."
