Bass Player seals career-best tally for Kevin Frost as trainer credits switch to 'fantastic' yard
A spring move to Averham Park has paid dividends for Kevin Frost, who sealed a career-best tally for the year when Bass Player landed the 1m½f handicap.
Bass Player, who is owned by the trainer, was a 22nd winner of the year for Frost when pouncing late for a short-head success under Sam James.
Frost was previously based at Danethorpe near Newark and moved his string nearly ten miles west at the start of April.
The trainer, who has 15 horses for the winter, said: “We only had one winner on the board when we moved to Averham Park and the horses have thrived. I have fewer horses than before but we’ve had more winners and it’s a fantastic place to train from.”
Bass Player was a £8,000 buy for Frost last year and had a triple-figure rating as a three-year-old.
Frost said: “He retains plenty of ability but has his quirks. I’m hopeful there could be a bit more to come – he has the ability to travel well which does help on the all-weather.”
In-form rider
Apprentice Archie Young rode a third winner from his last four rides aboard Saxon Raider in the 7f nursery.
Young boasts a 22 per cent strike-rate (16-72) for boss Charlie Johnston, the trainer of Saxon Raider, and has three mounts at Redcar on Tuesday.
Feature-race win
Kitty Furnival backed up her last-start maiden win with victory in the 1m4f handicap.
The Simon and Ed Crisford-trained filly stayed on best for a neck win under Jack Mitchell.
