Auguste Rodin failed to fire on his final start of his career when the Japan Cup went the way of the home team headed by favourite Do Deuce

The dual Derby winner broke quickly under Ryan Moore but was denied a clear run entering the home straight, and once he found space was unable to pick up under Ryan Moore to tail home towards the rear of the field.

The Grade 1 contest went the way of favourite Do Deuce, who finished fourth behind Equinox in the race last year, after a strong charge from behind under top Japanese jockey Yutaka Take.

The five-year-old, who was winner of the Tenno Sho (Autumn) at the track last month, finished narrowly ahead of the dead-heat runner-ups Shin Emperor and Durezza, the ride of William Buick.
