Another Group 1 star? Janey Mackers blows apart valuable maiden for David Menuisier team

David Menuisier was reminded of two of his Group 1 winners in the mile fillies' maiden as Janey Mackers powered to a decisive victory under Oisin Murphy.

The juvenile showed promise to finish third on her debut at Yarmouth and built on that effort by relishing the testing conditions and striding five and a half lengths clear of Rock Camelot.

Menuisier began his subsequent top-level scorer Wonderful Tonight in the same valuable affair in 2019, while dreams for his latest potential star could involve avenging Sun Chariot winner Tamfana's defeat in the Prix Diane.

"We always regarded her quite a bit, but it was really eyecatching," Menuisier said. "It's the race I started Wonderful Tonight in and she finished third. You can't get too carried away, but that's her last run of the season and she'll have to be entered in the nice middle-distance races next year.

"I'm not sure we'll enter in the 1,000 Guineas but I'm pretty sure she'll be entered in the Diane and the Oaks. I've had a lot of success with the sire New Bay and she was good from day one at the sales.

"I bought another filly by him at Deauville this week, so hopefully she can follow in the path of the others. I'm over the moon."

Menuisier and ecstatic owner AJ Walls, whose only other horse Master Builder also proved well above average, will be hoping Janey Mackers can emulate the 2022 winner Soul Sister, who went on to score at Epsom.

Zoum zooms home

Ralph Beckett's hot season continued with the pleasing win of Zoum Zoum in the hotly contested 6f handicap under Rob Hornby.
