Less than 24 hours after Longchamp glory, the victorious trio of Ed Walker, Tom Marquand and owners Brightwalton Bloodstock were back in the winner's enclosure when Fernando broke his maiden in the mile nursery.

Success for the gelded two-year-old was far from assured after he was fractious in the stalls, but Marquand proved an able set of hands to keep the 7-1 shot under wraps before holding off the sustained challenge of Creative Lady by a neck.

The victory followed up a magical afternoon for connections in France on Sunday when Makarova denied Bradsell to land the Prix de l'Abbaye.

"This was definitely harder work," Marquand told Sky Sports Racing after Fernando's victory. "It was a great day yesterday but this fella was quite important to win on too.

"The big days are very important but the small days are equally, for owner-breeders, pivotal stuff. He's clearly got his own way of thinking about things, that played out as he drew level with the leaders, but he won pretty snugly. He's probably value for a bit more."

Marquand and Walker also teamed up with 11-4 chance Stormy Monday in the 1m2f nursery. He completed a 449-1 treble for Marquand, who also scored on 14-1 shot Rhapsody in the second division of the mile fillies' novice for William Haggas.

Hot debut

John and Thady Gosden followed up their own Group 1 success at Longchamp when the smartly bred Hot Flame struck on her debut in the first division of the mile fillies' novice contest.
