£13 matched at 999-1 as Fantasy Believer pulls off unlikeliest of wins
Fantasy Believer pulled off a sensational victory when coming from the back of the field to somehow win the mile handicap at Kempton on Wednesday evening.
The four-year-old, who was matched for £13 at 999-1 on the Betfair Exchange, was six lengths behind the field at the start after breaking slowly and was the back-marker travelling around the final bend.
However, Fantasy Believer made headway between rivals with two furlongs to run and outstayed the principals to lead inside the final 100 yards and win by three-quarters of a length under Kieran Shoemark.
How the race unfolded
"He's falling into the habit of missing the break but it's probably done me a favour as we would have been involved in the frantic early gallop," Shoemark told Racing TV on Wednesday evening.
"He was able to settle sitting last. They've gone very quick and it's fallen into his lap. I wouldn't say I was never really happy during the race. Turning in they were about 15 lengths ahead of me and I thought I'd try to latch onto the pack. Once he passed one, he gained confidence and went for the next one. It was a good effort."
