Roger Ingram up and running in 2022 with the help of in-form Jack Mitchell
Saturday: Lingfield
In-form jockey Jack Mitchell was in no mood to hang around on eight-race maiden No Such Luck and he brought up a double on the card with an enterprising ride in the 1m2f handicap.
Mitchell poached an unassailable lead on No Such Luck, who was trying the trip for the first time, and cruised to a seven-length success to provide Roger Ingram with his first winner of the year.
"I said to Jack just tack him in behind the leaders but he said the horse was keen, so he just let him stride on and the rest is history," said Ingram.
Mitchell, who also guided odds-on favourite State Legend to victory for James Ferguson, is operating at a strong 25 per cent strike-rate in 2022 and is looking forward to the summer turf season ahead.
Mitchell said: "I can't wait for the grass, I've got a very good team of trainers and owners to ride for, plenty of nice horses. I've just got to keep fit and healthy, that's the main objective."
Happy Hughes
Richard Hughes was full of praise for former weighing room colleague Ryan Moore after the jockey steered Lost Of Love to a winning debut in the opening 1m2f maiden.
Of Moore, who struck on his first ride for the trainer this year, Hughes said: "Ryan gave him a lovely ride - I said he'd nearly win if he stayed and he did."
"We were good pals for years and he does me a favour by riding them more than anything else."
