Katie Scott celebrates career-best tally on the Flat - and it's only July!
Monday: Ayr
Katie Scott continues to showcase her training talents and struck with 40-1 yard debutant Ben Asker in the 7f handicap to seal a career-best seasonal tally of winners on the Flat.
Scott ran stable stalwart Gweedore three times in five days recently, registering two seconds before a career-best win at Ayr, and Ben Asker secured her tenth winner on the Flat for the year by making all under Billy Garritty.
Ben Asker failed to stay in three starts over hurdles for Paul Robson, who recommended the four-year-old to Scott for the Flat.
Scott, whose Galashiels premises is full with 21 horses, said: “There’s always that last furlong and a half where you’re worried they’re going to get caught, but he stuck his head out and Billy gave him a good ride.
“It’s been a good year and I’ve not had a licence that long so you start to build your confidence with experience and get better at placing your horses. We’ve got great owners who let me run them where they have the best chance.
“I wouldn’t want to expand the quantity of horses where we are but it would be good to upgrade the quality.”
Double bubble
Owners Middleham Park Racing enjoyed a 47-1 double courtesy of 6f novice debutant scorer Prince Of Pillo, trained by Keith Dalgleish, and 1m2f handicap winner Bruno’s Gold, who made the 760-mile round trip from Archie Watson’s yard in Lambourn.
Bruno's Gold initiated a double for Paul Mulrennan, who won the finale on the Jim Goldie-trained Shine On Brendan.
