'I'm absolutely buzzing' - trainer Simon Pearce records first double
Simon Pearce was “absolutely buzzing” after he had a day to remember by saddling his first double.
The in-form Pearce has now recorded wins with each of his last three runners after Noble Peace and Full Intention both struck under Jack Mitchell, four days after Red Evelyn also triumphed at Lingfield.
Pearce, who took over his mother Lydia’s training licence towards the end of 2019, said: “I’m absolutely buzzing. We’re a small family-run business. My mum and dad were stable lads and built it up and now I’ve taken over to try to build it back to where it once was when we had 50 to 60 horses.”
Both victories came in the colours of owners Killarney Glen, who Pearce was quick to thank: “The owners have been with us for 20-odd years and deserve everything they get after helping us out through the good times and the bad. You operate at very fine margins as a small trainer so days like these are fantastic.”
Having guided 9-1 shot Noble Peace to a short-head victory in the 1m2f handicap, Mitchell then overcame the widest draw in stall 12 in the 7f handicap on Full Intention. He broke superbly and claimed a prominent position from where he struck by two lengths.
“It’s not ideal being drawn where we were but he had a lot of natural speed and got me up there. From there it was simple,” Mitchell told Sky Sports Racing.
Murhib ends drought
The nine-year-old Murhib ended long winless droughts for himself and trainer Lydia Richards by landing the 1m5f handicap.
Murhib, a son of Sea The Stars, got his nose in front under Rab Havlin for the first time since May 2019 when easing three lengths clear of Double Legend.
The success was a first win on the Flat in 380 days for dual-purpose trainer Richards.
