Middleham Park Racing celebrated 50 winners for the season and neared the £500,000 prize-money mark after victories for the Keith Dalgleish-trained Misty Ayr and Clay Regazzoni.

A 1-8 shot for the three-runner 5f novice, Misty Ayr narrowly prevailed from newcomer Lady Raeburn with winning jockey Joe Fanning the first to send out distress signals.

Syndicate manager Mike Prince was relieved to see the filly land her first win on her fourth start.

"It looked like a straightforward opportunity for her to get in front," he said. "We tried our hand at Royal Ascot and then she was nicely placed at Tipperary to get black type. We ran her pretty quickly and she did get a bit warm before the race, so she will have a little chill now.

"There are a couple of options in August for her, the Lowther if we wanted to step her up in trip or there's the St Hugh's Stakes at Newbury, the five-furlong Listed race."

Callum Rodriguez did the steering on four-year-old Clay Regazzoni, who was on top in the 1m½f handicap, but it is the Middleham youngsters that have Prince excited.

"We've got a number of two-year-olds still to come," he added. "We don’t really buy sharp early sorts, we tend to get horses that need more time these days so there's plenty of ammo still to come."

It was a productive day for Dalgleish as 12-1 outsider Home Before Dusk stayed on well for Sam James in the 1m1f handicap - a fine effort after he was last of seven at Ayr on Monday.
