Prize-money is the big problem in British racing says Cheveley Park chief
Cheveley Park Stud’s managing director Chris Richardson believes prize-money is “the big problem” in British racing and revealed it was a factor in the majority of the owner’s star jumps horses being trained in Ireland.
The Colin Tizzard-trained Rose Of Arcadia, entered in a Grade 2 mares’ contest at Newbury on Saturday, is Cheveley Park’s sole jumps horse in Britain and they enjoyed a memorable and poignant three winners from six Irish-trained runners at last week’s Cheltenham Festival – two months on from the death of the stud's joint founder David Thompson.
Richardson reiterated that Cheveley Park, whose stud is in Newmarket, will be enjoying their current crop of jumps stars rather than restocking at future sales, as revealed by Thompson’s son Richard on Racing TV’s Luck On Sunday.
