Who will come out on top as apprentice jockeys' title contenders hunt for winners? Punting pointers for Sunday's action
Punting pointers from some of Sunday's race meetings . . .
Bath: apprentice title leader hunting for winners
The race for champion apprentice is heating up, with Sean Dylan Bowen overtaking Joe Leavy after a double at Chester on Friday took him to 31 winners for the season.
The 18-year-old is picking up as many rides as possible in his bid for the championship and had five again at Chester on Saturday where he came away with one winner.
Bowen heads to the Somerset track in search of more success and will have four chances to add to his tally, with rides in the 1m2f apprentice handicap (1.57), 1m6f handicap (3.40), 5½f handicap (4.20) and mile handicap (5.30). His best chance of a winner looks to be the four-timer-seeking Al Sayah for Neil Mulholland.
Leavy has prioritised quality over quantity with just the two rides at Doncaster in the £70,000 6½f handicap (4.15) and 6f apprentice handicap (5.25).
Bath: more Mulholland magic?
Neil Mulholland boasts a 29 per cent strike-rate at the track this year after saddling two winners from seven runners.
The trainer has three chances with Emanante (1.57), Masterdream and Al Sayah (3.40).
Musselburgh: Ellison one to watch
Brian Ellison has an excellent record at the Scottish track this year, saddling three winners from just eight runners for a 38 per cent strike-rate.
They were hardly a bunch of short-priced favourites either, with those statistics yielding an average £14.50 return to a £1 stake.
Ellison, who bid goodbye to his stable star and Northumberland Plate winner Onesmoothoperator as he headed off to Australia this week, looks a trainer to watch on a quiet card.
He has just three runners, with Ffos Las winner Pearl Sands in the mile handicap (2.10), as well as Thea Bell, who could be interesting if improving for a wind operation.
Sybaris Jewel holds a Listed entry and would be worthy of a second look in a weak-looking mile nursery (3.22).
"As long as there's a bit of juice in the ground then I think Pearl Sands will be fine," Ellison said. "He doesn't want fast ground, but won well last time out and is in good form.
"Thea Bell and Sybaris Jewel are both stepping up to a mile and we're hopeful for Thea Bell, but Sybaris Jewel has definitely been crying out for this longer trip. She's going very well at home and if she gets the trip she could take all the beating."
Musselburgh: strike-record of note
Zak Wheatley has a 25 per cent strike-rate at Musselburgh in the last five years, but the figure improves to an eyecatching 35 per cent when teaming up with trainer Declan Carroll.
The pair have four runners headed by Aye Up Lass (3.22), who lost out by only a neck last time when 22-1 and returns over course and distance.
