There are no top-level 7f races in Britain and few Group horses remain exclusively at this intermediate trip. It is little surprise the majority of recent John of Gaunt Stakes winners were either sprinters moving up in distance or milers dropping down.
It is the earliest of three Group 3 7f contests in the British Pattern and the average winner across the last decade has recorded a useful Racing Post Rating of 115.
