Well-bred newcomer out to maintain Ralph Beckett's good form and a Prescott runner to note - punting pointers for Wednesday
Punting pointers from each of today's race meetings . . .
Kempton: novice to note
Ralph Beckett is the man of the moment after Bluestocking's triumph in Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Sunday, and the trainer will bid to keep his good form going in a hot novice (5.15).
Beckett won both divisions of the 7f contest last year and will aim to follow up with Ar Rayyan, who makes his debut for Al Shaqab Racing.
The son of Siyouni is out of dual Group 1 winner Qemah, so there's plenty to like about his pedigree, while jockey Hector Crouch has found Kempton a happy hunting ground this year.
The biggest challenger could be the Juddmonte-owned colt Detain, who won nicely at the track on his debut for John and Thady Gosden and is a half-brother to smart stablemate Arrest.
Kempton stat: handicap king
Jamie Osborne has a 27 per cent strike-rate in all-aged handicaps with a level-stakes profit of £41. He relies on Hierarchy, who finished second on his last start and will bid to go one better under Saffie Osborne in the 6f handicap (8.15).
Ludlow: Twiston-Davies on top
Nigel Twiston-Davies was leading trainer at the track last season and bids to roll that terrific record into this campaign with two runners.
He operated at a 27 per cent strike-rate last term and backing his runners at a £1 level stake would have yielded a £13.24 profit. His son Sam was also leading jockey at Ludlow last season.
The pair team up twice on the seven-race card and have a leading chance with Scottie's Sister in the fillies' juvenile maiden hurdle (2.35). She has the most experience in the field with four hurdle runs, including a good second at Newton Abbot last time. They are also represented by Topofthecotswolds in the 3m handicap chase (4.05).
Navan: notable debutant
Aidan O'Brien is tied with Gavin Cromwell for the most winners at Navan in 2024 and he will seek to get one up on his rival with three chances in the mile juvenile maiden (3.51).
Won by subsequent classy performers Euphoric and Salt Lake City in the past two years, O'Brien will be aiming to unearth another top-class contender with Des Moines and Isambard Brunel.
However, his most interesting runner could be Light As Air, who makes his debut under Dylan Browne McMonagle and is a half-brother to Classic winner Continuous.
The son of Wootton Bassett holds entries in this month's Futurity Trophy at Doncaster as well as next year's Irish 2,000 Guineas.
Nottingham: course specialist
When Sir Mark Prescott sends a runner to Nottingham, it is worth taking notice. The Newmarket trainer has saddled just three runners at the track this year and all three have been successful.
He bids to maintain that record with debutant Threatening in the 6f novice (2.15) under Shane Kelly.
The son of Night Of Thunder was a 65,000gns buy as a yearling. Both his sire and dam thrived over further, so the trip may not bring out the best in him, but he is well bred and could have the necessary class.
His chief rival is likely to be Arctic Voyage, a half-brother to Group 1 winner Lady Bowthorpe who finished third at Newbury at the end of September.
Nottingham stat: purchase pointer
Charlie Appleby has sent six runners to Nottingham this year for a 50 per cent strike-rate. He will be hoping that Royal Officer, who was purchased for one million guineas can improve that record with a first success in the 1m½f novice (3.15).
Sedgefield: hat-trick hunter
Warren Greatrex is 2-2 at the course this season and bids to add another winner to his tally courtesy of Jet Of Dreams in the 2m½f handicap chase (3.28).
The six-year-old is in search of a hat-trick after scoring at Hereford in May before winning on his return two weeks ago over course and distance.
Greatrex said: "He's come out of his last race in good order and he'll definitely strip fitter in this. The handicapper has put him up 4lb, which is fair, and we know he likes the track.
"He had a wind operation this year as we knew something was bothering him. He's young and looks like he has plenty of improvement still to come. He's fit and raring to go."
