Unbeaten favourite might have Ballydoyle's measure - but 80-1 about this lively outsider is frankly insulting

The roll of honour for the Fillies' Mile in the last ten years includes the recently retired Inspiral, who gained the first of her six Group 1 wins in the race, and the highly prolific Minding, who went on to win five Group 1s as a three-year-old including the 1,000 Guineas and the Oaks.

The latter's trainer Aidan O’Brien bids for a record seventh win to go clear of Sir Henry Cecil and John Gosden and he has three contenders – May Hill runner-up January, the unbeaten Dreamy and the recent Ascot novice winner Ballet Slippers.

The fillies' novice that Ballet Slippers won on the round course at Ascot last time has received a minor form boost with the runner-up winning at Haydock since. Like her dam Magical she is probably going to get better with age but it is interesting Wayne Lordan rides, suggesting she could be second string behind January.
