Thunder Kiss out to disrupt Weld and O'Brien dominance in Give Thanks Stakes
Saturday: 4.55 Cork
Irish Stallion Farms EBF Give Thanks Stakes (Group 3)| 1m4f | 3yo+ | RTV
This race had been earmarked as one of two potential starting points for Tarnawa this season, but her brilliant win in the Ballyroan Stakes on Thursday has opened things up plenty here.
Thunder Kiss must give weight to all rivals after her convincing success in the Group 3 Munster Oaks over course and distance in June, and she ran with great credit to finish three-quarters of a length behind Cadillac in the International Stakes at the Curragh after that.
That 1m2f trip might be on the sharp side for her in quality contests such as this, so returning to 1m4f is likely to play to her strengths.
Dermot Weld has been the man to follow in this race, winning six of the last nine runnings and seven in total.
His talented Moyglare duo of Federica Sophia (out of 2012 winner of this race Sapphire) and Amma Grace (a half-sister to Sapphire) have every chance of being in the mix on ratings, although the latter needs to bounce back from a disappointing return at Gowran in May.
La Petite Coco is an unexposed improver who should really enjoy this sort of test, while Aidan O'Brien – seeking a sixth win in the race – has live chances in the shape of Irish Oaks fourth Willow and Munster Oaks third High Heels.
Silence Please split the latter and Thunder Kiss in that Group 3 at the Mallow venue, but her participation here would appear uncertain given she finished second to Tarnawa at Leopardstown on Thursday evening.
What they say
Dermot Weld, trainer of Federica Sophia and Amma Grace
Federica Sophia has been very consistent and has placed in Listed and Group company this year. We look forward to seeing her run again and she can earn more black type, she's adaptable in terms of the ground. Amma Grace has been off for a while. She's been freshened up and I expect her to run a nice race. She's a good filly but my only concern would be the ground – I'd prefer if it didn't get too soft.
Aidan O'Brien, trainer of High Heels and Willow
Willow seems to be in good form since her last run and we don't think she'll mind any ease in the ground. High Heels is a little lazy, so we're putting blinkers on her. She might not want the ground too soft.
Paddy Twomey, trainer of La Petite Coco
I was keen to bring her to Killarney last time after finishing second to Willow at Naas because I felt she hadn't a huge amount of experience. She looks like she's ready to step up in grade and trip now, I think she'll continue to improve.
Joseph O'Brien, trainer of Traisha
She has form on ground with ease in it and hopefully she can run a good race. We've given her a bit of time since her last start.
