Three things to note on Friday - Jonathan Harding casts his eye over the day's action
Former Derby favourite Moon reaching for a win over hurdles
Remember Reach For The Moon? Bred and initially owned by Queen Elizabeth II, he won the 2021 Solario Stakes and was a one-time favourite for the Derby before missing the Classic after failing to make it back in time from injury.
Following four winless starts on the Flat at three and four, including when a beaten odds-on favourite in the Hampton Court Stakes at Royal Ascot, Reach For The Moon joined Jamie Snowden and switched to hurdles, with his first win coming at Worcester in July. That will have done his confidence the world of good and he bids to follow up in the BetGoodwin Best UK Betting Site Novices' Hurdle at Fontwell (2.35).
Is Haggas filly reaching a crescendo as she takes on bumper runner?
It will be interesting to see whether Russian Crescendo can follow up her success at Kempton last month in the BetmMGM Novice Stakes (3.22) at Ascot. The daughter of Cracksman was unraced as a juvenile before finishing well beaten on her debut in July behind Rouge Sellier, who was declared for the Group 1 Qatar Prix de Royallieu at Longchamp on Saturday.
One of the William Haggas-trained filly's rivals, Stavvy, has had a slightly more unorthodox route to this race. The four-year-old ran in three bumpers before being pulled up when last seen in this year's Champion Bumper.
Tabletalk attempts to complete same double as last year's winner in Noel Murless
Tabletalk will attempt to emulate Middle Earth by landing the Melrose and the Listed BetMGM Noel Murless Stakes (3.57), although unlike last year's winner he did not contest the St Leger in between.
A few eyebrows were raised when the three-year-old was supplemented for the Derby, but he outran his odds of 100-1 to finish a respectable tenth. He then finished a fair third at Ascot before scoring at York. He has not been tried on testing ground, but he is by Camelot, which provides some encouragement that he can handle it.
