Think you've got it cracked with the Cambridgeshire hotpot? This is one of the toughest of impossible handicaps
Thank goodness, it's time to leave behind a week of arguing about whether it's a good idea to add a couple more impossible handicaps to the Cheltenham Festival (which is nearly six months away) and focus instead on an impossible handicap much nearer to hand, viz the bet365 Cambridgeshire at Newmarket.
Are you smirking away to yourself at my use of the word impossible, because you managed to nick a bit of value about the Irish hotpot earlier in the week? This Songisforyou, he's called, an unexposed six-year-old who won a similar race last time and looks a very likely type indeed.
But the Cambridgeshire is no friend to the favourite-backer. Just one of the last ten winners has been returned at single-figure odds and that was Lord North, who went on to win four times at the highest level before being retired just the other day. So if you're not a future winner of the Prince of Wales's Stakes with 26lb in hand, it might be hard work carrying the burden of punter expectations in this race.
