'The pick of her form would make her hard to beat' - Joseph O'Brien runs six in bid for repeat success
Joseph O'Brien is responsible for half the field in a Group 3 he won last year with Maxux.
She was sent off 10-1and convincingly beat better-fancied stablemate American Sonja, who went off 5-2 joint-favourite, so figuring out the pecking order of the Owning six is a potentially arduous task.
Jockey bookings suggest Uluru is the best of the bunch. She has a mark of 103 and is ridden by Dylan Browne McMonagle, who is red-hot having ridden ten winners in the last fortnight. Her sole success came at this track in July 2023, but that was on soft ground and she may prefer a bit more ease.
Je Zous is an unexposed three-year-old filly who didn't get much luck in running in the German Oaks last time. That effort can be upgraded and she might turn out to be the most interesting of the O'Brien contingent.
This is certainly a strong edition of the race and Epsom Oaks fifth Caught U Looking has been given her best chance of hitting the back of the net for a while. She wasn't disgraced in the Blandford Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday and, if none the worse for those recent exertions, must have a say.
Azada represents Dermot Weld, who last won this with Brooch in 2014. She's been given plenty of time to recover from a disappointing display in a Listed race at the Curragh on Irish Derby weekend, and a repeat of her fine sixth in the Irish 1,000 Guineas puts her right in the mix. The chances are we haven't seen the best of this daughter of Siyouni and it may be worth giving her the benefit of the doubt. She has untapped potential.
This has not been a profitable race for punters of late. The last winning favourite was Laganore in 2017 and the average starting price of the five winners since then is 10-1.
What they say
Joseph O'Brien, trainer of Adelaise, Goldana, Valpolicella, Je Zous, Uluru and Unreasonable
Uluru would like it a bit softer in an ideal world, but the pick of her form would make her hard to beat. Je Zous is a consistent filly who's progressing all the time. She drops in distance but should have a live each-way chance. Adelaise is a consistent filly and hopefully we can get some more black type for her. Goldana is a Group winner but she would need some rain to be seen to best effect. That said, a reproduction of her best form would see her right in the mix. Unreasonable loves fast ground and ran well over this course and distance already this season so hopefully she runs well, while Valpolicella is having her first run after a layoff. Hopefully she runs a nice race and it sets her up for something in the autumn.
Jessica Harrington, trainer of Improvista
There's not much left for her this season so this looked the logical place to come after she won her maiden at Clonmel. It's probably a step too far for her but we'll see how she gets on and we'll learn a bit about her.
Paddy Twomey, trainer of One Look
She's in good form and had a good run at the track two starts ago. She won at Killarney after that and we've had this race in mind for her since then. It's been the plan for a while and she seems in good form.
