Southern raiders head north for £100,000 Kelso feature and this mare could thrive in Scotland

The absence of high-quality racing between Cheltenham and Aintree in Britain has needed addressing for some time. There are intentions to rectify that and it is important the Go North Weekend continues its trajectory of growth to fill that space.
An influx of prize-money into the £100,000 Herring Queen Series Final, the big betting race at Kelso and most lucrative across the three-day festival, can only help with that endeavour.
The Herring Queen’s purse is now on a par with Sandown’s Imperial Cup, won two weeks ago by Go Dante. The financial boost also means the Herring Queen has taken the feature slot on this weekend that in years gone by belonged to the Grade 2 mares’ novice handicap, run 15 minutes later at Newbury.
