'She's very interesting back against her own sex and up to six furlongs' - analysis and quotes for the Group 3 Firth of Clyde
They don't come much shrewder than Tony Bloom and Ian McAleavy, so if they were willing to pay 150,000gns for Sky Majesty as a yearling it's worth sitting up and taking note. The leading owners have already had a return on their money as the filly made a winning debut.
It was quite an eyecatching one, too, because rider Tom Marquand didn't pick up his whip and appeared to have settled for second or third, but the turbo kicked in when Sky Majesty reached the final half-furlong and she got up on the line to catch a subsequent winner.
She won with any amount in hand and it was only scratching the surface of her ability but, with a Racing Post Rating of just 86, she will need to improve nearly a stone if she is to reach the standard of the weakest winners in the last two seasons, who achieved RPRs of 99 in this race.
The same can be said for all of them, though, because none has reached the standard usually required and that includes the form horse, It Ain’t Two. She has a career-best RPR of 96, but was a long way below that level when only sixth in the Sirenia Stakes at Kempton this month.
Those with plenty of runs behind them evidently don't set a fearsome standard and if Sky Majesty doesn't improve past them, then Town And Country might. Trainer Henry de Bromhead might be best known for jumpers, but he is 3-8 on the Flat in Britain this season.
Town And Country has won only a maiden and the form hasn't worked out, but she wouldn't be lining up here unless De Bromhead was confident, and Jim Crowley is an interesting jockey booking. He is having his first ride for the trainer on the daughter of Earthlight.

What they say
George Boughey, trainer of Englemere
She worked very nicely on Tuesday and I was really encouraged by her run behind Aesterius last time, and he went on to win the Flying Childers. She's very interesting back against her own sex and also up to six furlongs.
Fozzy Stack, trainer of Grande Marques
She's come out of her win at Navan in good shape and seems well in herself. It's hard to get a handle on the form of that, but it was a nice confidence booster and she's a nice filly.
Adrian Nicholls, trainer of Maw Lam
She was supposed to go into the stalls late at Doncaster last time and there were some crossed wires. Everyone could see she was worked up and Jamie [Spencer, rider] thought she'd run her race beforehand and looked after her. She had no ill effects the next day. We thought this race over six furlongs looked the right one for her as opposed to the Listed race over five on Friday and if she can bring her best Group form she should run a big race.
John Quinn, joint-trainer of Royalty Bay
The ground was just too soft for her at Goodwood last time and we probably shouldn't have run her. She's been very good this year and we're very happy with her. It will be nice ground and so we're looking forward to running her as she's in good form.
William Haggas, trainer of Sky Majesty
She's not got the experience that some of the others have got, but she did beat a subsequent winner on her debut and we've been pleased with her since.
